The European Commission (EC) is reportedly preparing an antitrust warning against Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision. The warning, delivered through a notice of objections, will detail the organization’s concerns about the deal.
According to a recent report from Reuters, the claims the EC made came from people “familiar with the deal”. When asked to comment on the report, the organization refused to comment on the issue. Meanwhile, here’s what Microsoft had to say: “We continue to work with the European Commission to address any market concerns. Our goal is to bring more games to more people, and this deal will advance that goal.”
The reported antitrust warning wouldn’t be the first we’ve heard of concerns surrounding the deal outside of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Nvidia and Google have also expressed their concerns over the matter, as the Activision purchase will further strengthen Microsoft’s mobile gaming and subscription-based gaming services.
Although Microsoft said the company would try to offer remedies to the EC and the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), they said organizations would likely not be open to them until the statement was sent.
