If you played the original Dead Space back in 2008, you might remember how the game used an in-game 3D map, which while it looked cool at the time – wasn’t exactly user-friendly.
The 3D map was a little frustrating to use as you had to rotate it and such just to find where you needed to go or where you were. Look how it was then:
This is how it looks in motion:
Fortunately, this won’t be a problem in the upcoming remake. Motive Studio Realization director Joel MacMillan has confirmed that the Dead Space remake map has been reworked to be in 2D.
Here’s what McMillan has to say about the changes made to the in-game map:
Looking back, there was some frustration about how to control (the original map) or how to read it quickly. You’ll need to rotate it to figure out the best angle to see where your character is and where you need to go. We actually simplified it instead of beautifying it, to improve its clarity and readability.

Dead Space is expected to be released on January 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
