Marvel’s Avengers support will end this September, the last patch will arrive in March

Looks like the rumors were true, Crystal Dynamics will be dropping support for Marvel’s Avengers later this year! An official announcement was made today just hours after a rumor surfaced that Crystal Dynamics would end support for the game, as the studio’s developers would move on to work on the next untitled Tomb Raider game.

Marve’s Avengers FAQ and Support Details:

The game’s latest patch tagged as version 2.8 will be released on March 31, 2023, and it will be the last title update that brings new features or content to the game. After that, all official support for Marvel’s Avengers will end on September 30, 2023.

Fortunately, even with the end of support, both single player and multiplayer will continue to be playable. Patch 2.7, which introduced the Winter Soldier to the game, will be the last character to be released. No new cosmetics will be planned for the Marketplace, and all final balance updates will be released in March as part of the 2.8 update.

The good news? Starting March 31, 2023, Crystal Dynamics will make all the game’s cosmetic content, challenge card, shipping available to all players for free. Every outfit, download, emote, nameplate from the Marketplace, and challenge cards and deliveries will be free for all players from March onwards, as long as they have a copy of the game.

Along with the end of the development, we will also turn off the cosmetics market. When Update 2.8 launches on March 31, 2023, credits will no longer be purchasable and any remaining credit balances will be converted to in-game resources to aid ongoing adventures. Can I still play the game solo?

Yes. All content available for solo play will continue to be available after September 30, 2023.

Can I still play with my friends?

Yes. Multiplayer will still be accessible after support ends on September 30, 2023. Multiplayer will continue to require Xbox Live Gold on Xbox platforms and PS Plus on PlayStation platforms.

Will single and multiplayer be available forever?

The changes we are making to the way the game works will ensure as long a life as possible. However, after September 30, 2023, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to address issues that occur due to unforeseen circumstances.

What happens between now and September 30, 2023?

The game will continue to run as it has until March 31st, 2023. At that time, Update 2.8 will launch with the final game balance changes and all Marketplace, Challenge Card, and Shipment cosmetics will be available to all players for free.

What happens when update 2.8 goes live?

On March 31, 2023 with Update 2.8, we will give all players access to all Marketplace cosmetics, including every outfit, download, and nameplate that were previously purchasable with credits. In addition, all cosmetic items previously earned through Hero Challenge cards and deliveries will also be available to all players.

Can I still buy the game after March 31, 2023?

Yes. The game will remain available for digital purchase between March 31, 2023 and September 30, 2023 and at retail while supplies last. There will be no new digital purchases of the game after September 30, 2023.

If I buy a pre-owned copy of the game on disc after September 30, 2023, do I get all the cosmetics for free?

Yes, everyone who owns the game will get access to the same cosmetics pack for free.

If I delete my digital version of the game, can I reinstall it after September 30, 2023?

Yes, if you own the game before September 30, 2023, you can reinstall it after that date. However, as noted above, after September 30, 2023 we cannot guarantee that we will be able to address issues that occur due to unforeseen circumstances.

Why are you giving away all Marketplace content for free?

We wanted to show all our players how much we appreciated their support over the last few years. Gifting the full library of Marketplace content is a way to thank our community by allowing them to experience the breadth of content in Marvel’s Avengers.

Will events like the Red Room takeover still take place after tomorrow and September 30, 2023?

Yes, they will run in rotation every two weeks.

Will new stories, features or heroes be added to the game after the 2.8 update?

No new stories, features, or heroes will be added to the game, and our final balance update will happen with the March 2.8 update.

Will there be more bug fixes after the 2.8 update?

We may deploy bug fixes after update 2.8 and before September 30, 2023 if necessary, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to make any changes after our support for the game ends.

After September 30, 2023, if something happens like my save game is corrupted, who should I contact?

After September 30, 2023, we will no longer provide support for Marvel’s Avengers.

What support will be discontinued?

After September 30, 2023, we will no longer add new content or provide customer support for the game. In addition, Marvel’s Avengers will no longer be available for purchase.

What about outfits that are earned in game through quests or challenge cards?

Cosmetic items will still be earned through the cosmetic vendor, mission rewards, and templates. All other cosmetics will be given to players for free.

Is something happening to the cosmetics seller?

No, the cosmetics supplier will remain.
